El Salvador Band kicked off 2024 with a musical parade

The Ministry of Culture had announced that the El Salvador Band would start the new year with a parade through the Historic Center of San Salvador. This cultural event took place on January 1st. It began at 4:00 PM and proceeded from Plaza Salvador del Mundo to Plaza Cívica Gerardo Barrios, where the musical group performed an extensive repertoire. The El Salvador Band was composed of 600 children and young musicians from across the country, with 300 new members adding to its prominence.

"In October, a new call was made for those who wished to join the ensemble, resulting in 600 children and young people, making it the largest musical band in Central America," announced the Ministry of Culture on social media. It was expected that both the parade and the civic square were attended by Salvadorans who enjoyed a grand concert featuring talented musicians showcasing their art. The El Salvador Band made its debut on September 15th of that year in commemoration of the 202 years since the signing of the Central American independence act.

On that occasion, the repertoire included pieces such as the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 5"; "Thriller" by composer Rod Temperton, popularized by Michael Jackson; "Arriba mi gente" and "Cumbia folclórica" by Salvadoran singer Nory Flores; "El carnaval de San Miguel" by Salvadoran Francisco Palaviccini; "Bajo el almendro" by Santaneco composer David Granadino; "Fireball" by American singer Pitbull, among others.

Some of those melodies were featured in the band's New Year parade, an event aimed at starting 2024 in the best way possible. At the beginning of that year, auditions were held, with around 1,000 applicants participating. Formal rehearsals had started in mid-May, and since then, they had covered themes from academic music, Salvadoran popular music, and international pop music, played with woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.

The Ministry of Culture emphasized that the marching band, due to its large format, valued the fact that its members came from all corners of the country, having been trained in the regional and central headquarters of the Youth Choirs and Orchestras System.Due to the parade route, several streets were closed from 5:30 PM, including Rubén Darío, 1st South Avenue, and between 4th and 1st South Avenues.
