LucÃa
DÃaz Madurga, a travel and gastronomy specialist journalist from the
international magazine National Geographic, recently explored El Salvador on an
adventure encompassing beaches, archaeological sites, mountains, and savoring
Salvadoran gastronomy with an anthropological essence.
To her,
El Salvador is a raw diamond that needs polishing because the country is
currently experiencing its prime and is emerging as one of the leading
countries in Central America in the tourism sector.
In this
regard, LucÃa DÃaz Madurga sees many virtues in El Salvador because one can
wake up in the mountains and in a couple of hours find themselves on a beach
surfing or enjoying a seafood dish.
One of
the must-visit places for every tourist is the National Museum of Anthropology
Dr. David J. Guzmán (MUNA) as it allows visitors to begin discovering the
country's identity and the diversity of Salvadoran culture from pre-Hispanic
times to the present day. This museum emphasizes the early settlements in El
Salvador, religion, agro-food and artisanal industry, and the various cultural
expressions found in the country.
She also
recommends visiting the Museum of Modern Art (MARTE) which pays tribute to
Salvadoran art from the mid-19th century to the present day and hosts various
temporary exhibitions by both national and international artists.
Regarding
Salvadoran gastronomy, Madurga highlights dishes based on native corn,
particularly the pupusas, considered the quintessential national dish.
LucÃa
DÃaz Madurga recommends visiting the Historic Center, the Metropolitan
Cathedral of San Salvador, the Rosario Church, Liberty Square, the National
Palace, El Boquerón, Joya de Cerén (referred to as the Pompeii of America), the
Tazumal pyramid, and Lake Coatepeque, among other places.
