National Library of El Salvador

The civic square, Captain General Gerardo Barrios, welcomed thousands of Salvadorans who traveled from different parts of the country to witness the inauguration of the National Library of El Salvador (Binaes) last Tuesday night, a project that President Nayib Bukele managed to secure in 2019 during a meeting with his counterpart from the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, in the capital Beijing. From early afternoon, dozens of citizens began arriving to admire the imposing structure whose design is inspired by the waves, reefs, and volcanoes of El Salvador.

Tourists in the square also eagerly awaited the nationwide radio and television broadcast announced by Nayib Bukele, in which he would showcase the facilities through a tour on the seven levels of the building. The broadcast was projected on two giant screens placed in front of the illuminated National Palace, which was actually renovated when Bukele was the mayor of San Salvador.

When the nationwide broadcast began, all Salvadorans in the civic square applauded and celebrated the appearance of the president on the giant screens. Some cheered, 'Nayib, Nayib!' while others called for his reelection.

"We have a great president, unique. This [Binaes] looks beautiful on the outside, not to mention the inside. Everything the president is doing is very nice; we thank him. The entire population is with him," expressed Dinora Martínez, a Salvadoran who came to the civic square.

Hundreds of citizens lined up to be the first to enter the new public library, the largest in the region. In statements to Noticiero El Salvador, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Eric Doradea, invited everyone to visit Binaes, indicating that the access process for certain areas of Binaes will be announced on social media.
