Salvadoran Coffee to be Exported to the United States for the First time

The responsible party will be the Acafesal association from Ahuachapán.

The Salvadoran Coffee Association (Acafesal) announced on Wednesday at the Los Ausoles Cooperative, located in the Llano La Laguna canton of Ahuachapán, the exportation of the first container of coffee beans as part of the Chamani project for the company Five Points Trading Corp, from the United States.

Members of Acafesal highlighted that this is an innovative project to support the small coffee growers in the country who have faced challenges due to low international prices and the lack of a comprehensive coffee policy in previous administrations.

The event was attended by Vice President Félix Ulloa's son and the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Óscar Domínguez, who reaffirmed the commitment to work for the renovation of the coffee plantations as part of the strategy to improve the country's economy.

Sergio Ticas, president of Acafesal, assured that the agreement with the company benefits the coffee growers by guaranteeing preferential prices for their coffee and by promoting more sustainable agricultural practices. The value of the quintal is $210, and they will export more than 500 quintals.

On the other hand, Ulloa emphasized that the first important step to materialize this coffee export to the United States was a successful tour with the commercial partner Five Points Trading Corp, represented by Luis Castillo, a native of Ahuachapán who decided years ago to found this company in that country.

Furthermore, enhancing the environment. These projects would not have developed with the gangs, because they evolved until reaching rural communities; now with the war on gangs, we clean up those areas and economic reactivation in agriculture is already beginning to be seen," highlighted Vice President Ulloa.
