Puerta del Diablo: Natural Park in El Salvador

After much anticipation, national and international tourists can now immerse themselves in the marvels of the recently reopened Puerta del Diablo Natural Park in Panchimalco, San Salvador. This announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, who confirmed to «Diario El Salvador» that the iconic natural park is once again ready to welcome visitors.

«The Salvadoran Tourism Institute (ISTU) has officially reopened the doors of Puerta del Diablo Natural Park, a recreational site that has been in demand for many years. Starting this Thursday, December 7th, Salvadorans and tourists alike can explore the new destination,» declared the Minister of Tourism.

Among the exciting additions to the park is the country’s largest glass viewpoint, offering breathtaking views of the Salvadoran capital. Additionally, visitors can indulge in a variety of Salvadoran dishes at the on-site gastronomic establishments.

Thrill-seekers can also partake in extreme activities such as climbing the iconic rock formations known as Chulito and El Chulón. Minister Valdez highlighted the local vendors who have adapted to the site, offering traditional Salvadoran delights like atoles and pupusas.

The park will be open seven days a week, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. To facilitate transportation for tourists, ISTU will provide buses connecting Puerta del Diablo Natural Park with Balboa Natural Park. Notably, the venue boasts security measures overseen by various state institutions, and the Ministry of Transportation (VMT) will regulate traffic to ensure accessibility for all visitors.

«I invite all Salvadorans and international tourists to witness the environmentally conscious transformation of this site. We encourage everyone to visit and stay updated on ISTU’s social media for information on schedules and activities,» commented Minister Valdez.

Emphasizing the alignment with President Nayib Bukele’s government strategy, she stated, «This reopening aligns with President Bukele’s commitment to providing top-notch, healthy spaces for the population, especially during the festive season.»

Minister Valdez also disclosed that the tourism project, which had long been overdue for the Salvadoran population, underwent an investment of over $2 million. She explained, «Approximately more than $2 million was invested in the renovation of Puerta del Diablo Natural Park. In the previous administration, we inherited an anti-environment project, and this renovation is a complete turnaround.»

Furthermore, the minister highlighted that the park has become a new source of direct and indirect employment opportunities. ISTU alone has hired over 50 individuals to attend to the public and conduct various tours, contributing to the economic growth of the region.
